Greg Norman has not competed in The Open Championship since 2009. He has not competed in a PGA Tour event since 2012. However, that is not stopping ‘The Great White Shark” from seeking to tee it up at The Open Championship this year. Norman has stated publicly that he is seeking a special exemption to compete at St. Andrews this year. Since Norman is 67, he no longer qualifies for the exemption awarded to former champions. Since Norman has stated that he is not interested in qualifying for the event and the R&A has signaled that they are uninterested in awarding Norman a special exemption, the chances of Norman competing look fairly slim right. But he is still hopeful. Considering Norman has been pretty much gone from the competitive scene on the PGA Tour for so long, it begs the question, why now?
