Last week concluded the U.S. Open as Los Angeles Country Club, and with it, yet another disappointing runner-up for PGA Tour star Rory McIlroy. Just as we saw at this year’s Arnold Palmer Invitational, RBC Canadian Open and the Memorial Tournament, Rory put himself in position to win, yet couldn’t convert on Sunday. It has been nine long years since Rory walked off of the 18th green of a major championship with the victory. After a Tiger-like performance coming down the stretch at Valhalla to capture the 2014 PGA Championship just after winning the Open Championship a month prior, it looked as though Rory was going to win a dozen more. Who would have thought that in 2023, that would be his last major as of now. As most people can guess, the difference in the 2014 Rory and the Rory of today is the putting, the Northern Irishman simply has been unable to can those much needed birdies in the final round to finish it off. In 2014, the year of dominance for Rory, he ranked 1 off the tee and 1 tee to green, he also ranked 41 in putting. This year, he ranks 2 off the tee, 2 tee to green, and 103 in putting. There lies the problem 41 in 2014 versus 103 in 2023. Rory needs to find someone who can work with him to improve the putter. If I were him, I would not set foot on the range or a golf course before spending at least one week doing nothing but practicing putting.  The long game is there, and we know why Rory is struggling now, the answer is right in front of us. The question is, will Rory doing something about it?
