Yesterday it looked as though Jon Rahm was cruising to victory at the Memorial Tournament. After shooting 30 on the back nine to cap off a stellar eight under par 64, securing a six stroke lead over Patrick Cantlay and Collin Morikawa, Rahm was approached by a tournament official and informed that he had tested positive for COVID-19. As one can imagine this proved to be a tough blow for ‘Rahmbo’ , as he was forced to withdraw shortly after. With Rahm’s withdraw, this leads to the question of whether his playing partners, Patrick Cantlay and Scottie Scheffler will have to withdraw as well? Cantlay is currently in first place at -12 along with Collin Morikawa now with Rahm gone, and Scheffler is in third place at -9. Both Cantlay and Scheffler have gotten tested this morning for COVID and are waiting on their results as we speak. Thougn, both Cantlay and Scheffler have said that they had COVID already, so they don’t seem very worried at all. Whether they get to play today for sure is an open question. But one thing is for sure, Rahm’s withdrawal, while disappointing, leaves the tournament wide open, and it should be a very close Sunday finish.
