A number of top players on the PGA Tour including Brooks Koekpa, Rory McIlroy, Dustin Johnson, Justin Thomas, and Phil Mickelson have reportedly been offered deals ranging from $30 to $50 million by the ‘The Premier Golf League’ to break away from the PGA Tour and instead compete on their circuit. The Premier Golf League or Super Golf League is an aspiring world golf circuit that has been bankrolled by Saudi Arabian investors, and has been recently trying to lure PGA Tour stars away with multi-million dollar offers. The league would consist of around 12 to 18 events per year, have a field of just under 50 players, and a purse of up to 10 million. Most players, especially McIlroy and Thomas have expressed their adamant opposition to the potential league, however Phil Mickelson has reportedly been more open to the idea. We know Mickelson loves the big bucks, and since his play on the PGA Tour has been rather abysmal as of late, the prospect of this new world tour may be prove quite attractive for Lefty. We’ll have to see.
